Robert Mondavi Dies

I loved the story how he and his wife had a ONE bedroom HUGE house, so that they had privacy.
Robert and I...sometimes I call him BOB, have spent some time together. He will be missed.

BERKELEY, Calif. - Robert Mondavi, the pioneering vintner who helped put California wine country on the map, died at his Napa Valley home Friday. He was 94. Mondavi died peacefully at his home in Yountville, Robert Mondavi Winery spokeswoman Mia Malm said.

He was 52 and a winemaking veteran in 1966, when he opened the winery that would help turn the Napa Valley into a world center of the industry. Clashes with a brother that included a fistfight led him to break from the family business to carry out his ambitious plans with borrowed money.

"He had the single greatest influence in this country with respect to high quality wine and its place at the table," wine critic Robert Parker wrote in a chat room posting on his Web site Friday. He called Mondavi "an exceptional man....a true pioneer...a legendary pathfinder.....and I feel so priviledged to have known him...a sad day...but also one to pay homage to his enormous contributions."

When Mondavi opened his winery, California was still primarily known for cheap jug wines. But he set out to change that, championing use of cold fermentation, stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels, all commonplace in the industry today. He introduced blind tastings in Napa Valley, putting his wines up against French vintages, a bold move.

His confidence was rewarded in 1976 when California wines beat some well-known French vintages in the famous tasting known as the Judgment of Paris.

Always convinced that California wines could compete with the European greats, Mondavi engaged in the first French-American wine venture when he formed a limited partnership with the legendary French vintner Baron Philippe de Rothschild to grow and make the ultra-premium Opus One at Oakville. The venture's first vintage was in 1979.

# 1 MICHIGAN woman mistook naked thief for husband Reuters - Mon May 12, 8:39 PM ET

KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - A Malaysian Err...MICHIGAN woman woke up to a real-life nightmare, discovering that the naked man who had slipped into her bed in the middle of the night was a thief, not her husband, a newspaper said on Tuesday. After several invigorating hours with the Err THIEF...She realized it was NOT her husband, and said..UM>..YOu better get the heck out of here...OH "By the way...He'll be gone next Tuesday".....

AND FINALLY I GOT A WIN!!!!!!

Krisscop wins, now what? Here's My winners photo from Winning the state of NEW HAMPSHIRE!!!!

And this THIS humiliating piece picked up by Rueturs about me also....HEY I should have KNOWN better, I was a PAROLE agent..and PROBATION...and worked in a "nut" house..but STILLL Look how they did me!!!
........I was walking past the mental hospital the other day,and all the patients were shouting ,"13....13....13"
The fence was too high to see over, but I saw a little gap in the planks and looked through to see what was going on.
Some bastard poked me in the eye with a stick.
Then they all started shouting "14....14....14"...
But seriously...heres a site of abandoned "state mental Hospital" pictures....yep...been there done that, have the set of keys to prove it...they never were very good on Key inventory!!!

This is a picture from of him from his website:

This is the note I sent him this morning:

What we have done just recently to save money:
* Take old shampoo./dishwasher liquid bottles to the Food Co op and have them refilled. One bottle lasts...well ..we haven't worn out a plastic bottle yet. With 3 urchins, I just like that we aren't throwing all the extra plastic in the trash
*We have stopped as much as possible BUYING bottled water. WE use REFILLABLE tap water from home. What ever "special" squeeze bottle they want is fine, it's cheaper than buying for every event.
Three Urchins + Tae Kwon Do+ dance= lots of money literally that is just "peed" away. Tap water=free $$. Sometimes the kids remember to fill bottle 1/3 full and put in freezer, then fill it before we leave= COLD bottled water! I think we save at LEAST ten dollars a week just doing this.
* We take our kids to charter school 40 minutes from home. I pack Snacks for when we pick them up so we aren't Sucked into the "I"m so hungry I"m going to pass out PLEASE stop at McDonald's trap".

*I joined the kids Charter School Board so I would know what is REALLY going on. Benefit: I KNOW what is going on. We RARELY have ANY parents or staff come. How does this affect money??? I am helping Shape MILLIONS in the budget, teacher salaries etc. Readers can save by this tip maybe: Our managing company gives a small kick back to an employee if they don't take the insurance. (Say for instance a spouse had insurance and it covers them). Benefit to school is thousands in Cost, even tho ALL savings doesn't go to employee, it is more cash in their pocket.

* I got addicted to "Propel" water drink. I was buying it at $1.75 a bottle from one of the schools vending machines where I teach Sign Language EVERY day. I found the Powered packets TEN for a dollar, and use them as a TREAT once a week IN my bottled tap water (remember the item above?). And guess what??? Its' JUST FINE!!! LOL.

Ok. I've been in a Funk. First...absolute overwhelmed....then..getting ready for D.C. trip...then exhausted...then had a "CHEW" out with a boss that didn't have to be, then I don't know what. I have SO much I want to say, am afraid to say and so on. SO
Maybe by doing what my fellow blogger suggested, a photo a day...it can help me get unstuck. (http://bbmpsecondjournal.blogspot.com/2008/05/photo-day-for-may-day-one.html)

Maybe I AM somebody ...

I was STUNNED to say the least to get this plaque of ROSEWOOD from the Center for Charter Schools from Central Michigan University at the Board Meeting last night. I literally SAID...OH...I WAS GOING TO RESIGN TONIGHT. much laughter. I was dead serious. its so large it's like 1/4 of the piano.
it will look really nice right behind the piano.
Yes, BEHIND the piano. I"m not much on displaying plaques. oh well its very nice.

Mostly Bust

Well this Klasieprof is NOT Bossy (I am bossy.com).

I just got back from the Trip to Washington DC with the Sign Language 2 classes. I am not the teacher of those classes.

I have no wit, no humor to display just now. The incredible boorish behavior of some, ruins it for all. And that's just the chaperone's.

I feel like Dorothy...Was it Dorothy? "There's no place like home" ...and I"m so glad to be here.

Washington DC or bust

Leave tomorrow being the "responsible adult" on a charter bus with 35 American Sign Language students and 15 chaperone's. Back home Sunday.

Books Titles for Kids

I got this email...and I know it's not real ORIGINAL to repost emails..but oh my..I DID laugh out loud.
Hope you do too.
I can just hear my mom say...WEll HOW do you think it's going to feel with MY FOOT UP YOUR ASS if you don't do so and so.....Which is what the Dr. Seuss book title made me think of...but...now...my mom is frail and old and failing...and it just seems kind of weird.

Exam Week, TKD Testing

This has been exam week at a couple of my schools.

Tomorrow the kids (2 of them W. and H) test for middle red belt. I have been making "patches" for the TKD institute.
Let me first explain, that I am the most UN artsy fartzy person on the planet. I'm not like my friend Ness with her ETSY shop
(HINT GO LOOK HERE: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5751373)
I am just BLEH.
However...something about paper patches just bugged me. The School ran out of Embroidered patches, and just print some off. SO...
What did I DO??? Opened my big fat mouth. Well cared for teeth IN mouth yes, but still OPENED it. href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg1K2xwxIrPFfPsR1RGTgOGUoD5gqgOwf9_j2EaoM7N8gquiqVtE-1p0gLjoeXvPA09PSqCVUlFlFXndUGKyxjwWI81htvM4_nqE8xwmKulY6eA8V9lG8Ripp3KjmPitQV0AEJU/s1600-h/TKD+patches+010.jpg">
First...about 7 trips to different stores. I thought that I could Get T-shirt transfer paper, Make the transfers from scanning the patch. That didn't work right. the background was all grey.
Is this boring you to death? Sorry.
SO I had to find a way to Lighten the background. I somehow could only fit TWO on a sheet of T-shirt transfer paper when I SHOULD have been able to do 4, but after an hour or two of trying..I gave up.
SO...each sheet of T-shirt paper= about a buck.
Ironed onto Patch type material= about 50 cents
Felt Backing ironed on to Patch material=About 33 cents
One + Color Cartridge, + 1/2 black Cartridge= about $25 bucks

# of hours...if I include 3 separate trips to Wal-Mart (bought spray glue for material, more t-shirt paper when I could only get 2 per sheet etc), Looking for the Iron, Setting up Ironing Board, Ironing transfer onto patches, and Frekin ENDLESS cutting of circles...Do I even WANT To try to figure this out? about 11 hours. Or More.
FOR
25 patches
