1980 yes 1980 Bottle of Silver Oak Cabernet....slightly tangy...then WOW Opened up....









Ok it's been a day since I posted the above so I'm coming back to try and make more sense for "tasting" notes.
Upon opening, wine was sort of vinergary, but had a FABULOUS nose. I SHOULD have decanted it to let it get some air..but...well...the Steak was already getting cold.
The more into the bottle, the better it was. Would HIGHLY suggest letting it stand for an hour or more before pouring. The tartness wore off and it was a very nice wine...full of fruit. I don't think in my storing it would have lasted much longer, so I'm happy it wasn't over the hill. BUY:? YES. Still has life in it.
It's just weird that....in 1980, I..well (blush) was still the BIG V if you know what I mean, had no kids, hadn't graduated from College yet..and LOTS of other stuff. I mean...this wine is 28 years old!!! WOW. I bought it in about 1989. Probably then it was around 30 bucks a bottle.

Red Wine Compound Helps Heart, May Slow Aging

THURSDAY, June 5 (HealthDay News) -- Resveratrol, a compound found in grapes, red wine, pomegranates and certain other foods, may protect the heart and slow the effects of aging, a new study suggests.

Tests in mice revealed that low doses of resveratrol mimic the effects of caloric restriction, diets with 20 percent to 30 percent fewer calories than a typical diet that have been shown to extend life span.

Previous research has shown that high doses of resveratrol prevent early death in mice fed a high-fat diet. This new study adds to those findings, showing that receiving low doses of resveratrol in middle age offers many of the benefits as a calorie-reduced diet.

"This brings down the dose of resveratrol toward the consumption reality mode. At the same time, it plugs into the biology of caloric restriction," co-senior author Richard Weindruch, a professor of medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, said in a prepared statement.

"Resveratrol is active in much lower doses than previously thought and mimics a significant fraction of the profile of caloric restriction at the gene expression levels," co-senior author Tomas Prolla, a professor of genetics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, said in a prepared statement.

The researchers found that resveratrol affected age-related gene expression changes in the heart tissue of mice. The study was published online this week in thePublic Library of Science One.

"There must be a few master biochemical pathways activated in response to caloric restriction, which in turn activate many other pathways. And resveratrol seems to activate some of these master pathways as well," Prolla said.

DSM Nutritional Products of Switzerland and the U.S. National Institutes of Health funded the study.

Robert Mondavi Dies

I loved the story how he and his wife had a ONE bedroom HUGE house, so that they had privacy.
Robert and I...sometimes I call him BOB, have spent some time together. He will be missed.


BERKELEY, Calif. - Robert Mondavi, the pioneering vintner who helped put California wine country on the map, died at his Napa Valley home Friday. He was 94. Mondavi died peacefully at his home in Yountville, Robert Mondavi Winery spokeswoman Mia Malm said.

He was 52 and a winemaking veteran in 1966, when he opened the winery that would help turn the Napa Valley into a world center of the industry. Clashes with a brother that included a fistfight led him to break from the family business to carry out his ambitious plans with borrowed money.

"He had the single greatest influence in this country with respect to high quality wine and its place at the table," wine critic Robert Parker wrote in a chat room posting on his Web site Friday. He called Mondavi "an exceptional man....a true pioneer...a legendary pathfinder.....and I feel so priviledged to have known him...a sad day...but also one to pay homage to his enormous contributions."

When Mondavi opened his winery, California was still primarily known for cheap jug wines. But he set out to change that, championing use of cold fermentation, stainless steel tanks and French oak barrels, all commonplace in the industry today. He introduced blind tastings in Napa Valley, putting his wines up against French vintages, a bold move.

His confidence was rewarded in 1976 when California wines beat some well-known French vintages in the famous tasting known as the Judgment of Paris.

Always convinced that California wines could compete with the European greats, Mondavi engaged in the first French-American wine venture when he formed a limited partnership with the legendary French vintner Baron Philippe de Rothschild to grow and make the ultra-premium Opus One at Oakville. The venture's first vintage was in 1979.

Winter Wonderland---NOT part deux

I like writing "Deux" cause it makes me seem smarter than I am. You know..Like I have class and taste and am living way above my means! BUT REALLY...I did recently drink that Domaine Du Pegau 1989 remember???

So WHY is it, that we who live in the frozen vast north can't apply for disaster relief every damn winter?

IF I HAD a bag of weed! I'm just SAYIN! Sheesh. No need to go rootin through my undies drawer. I DO NOT have a bag of a weed.
What I do have, is 12 inches of white cold shit in my driveway that I have to PAY somebody else to come and plow around. It does not give pleasure. Does NOT vibrate, and does NOT lead to more sleep.
As as far as anything vibrating..NO there is not one of those in my undies drawer either.

1989 Chateauneuf du Pape ...Don't hate me

Don't hate me...I drank it over 3 days....and the hub doesn't drink...and I had no one to share it with.










Domaine du Pégau Chateauneuf du Pape 1989: Rubbery note on the nose mars the overall impression of this wine, but it is still superb. Loads of fruit on the palate, with a soft, silky textured that is so appealing. Less aggressive alcohol than the other wines, impeccable balance, finishes just beautifully. 18/20
