Character: The Jack Russell Terrier is sturdy, hardy, and robust in appearance. They are outgoing with a keen expression. They have an inquisitive nature. This compact breed is very vocal but is never "yappy". They are fearless and are completely unaware of their small stature.
Temperament: The Jack Russell Terrier is a loving and devoted breed. They are spirited, lively, amusing, and energetic. They get along with older, well-behaved, considerate children. They are not recommended for children under eight years of age. They do not get along with other pets. Their natural hunting instinct brings out their aggressive nature. They are highly intelligent and bold. Their courage often leads them into dangerous situations that may lead to fatal results. The Jack Russell Terrier requires an extraordinary amount of human attention. They are not well suited for a two career family.

We have a 4yr old Jack Russell named Rocky Road. I hope he lives forever,because I can not imagine life without him. He does not know he is a dog. He sings along with you, and yodels.He loves to watch TV, especially dog whisperer and animal planet. When a dog comes on TV he jumps up on the couch and barks and talks to it. Yep, they are definately smart !
We just "lost" our 13 yr. old Jack Russell Oct 30, 2009. He developed chronic kidney failure and had congestive heart failure we discovered Labor Day weekend. Our vet gave him three days of "IV" treatments which "perked" him up for six weeks, but then he quit eating (a special, low protein diet) and started having seizures. We made the necessry but a very difficult "decision" because we couldn't stand seeing him suffer anymore. We couldn't talk about our loss for about three weeks and still get choked up thinking about him. One of these days, we'll probably get another "Jack". Previous "posts" are correct. "Jacks" are very smart, think they are a person, are very loyal and won't "back down" to another dog of any size if confronted. "Jeffery" could read our minds. They're a great pet and companion but are "high energy" --- right to the end. (They're not a good choice for apartment or condo owners unless they have "space" to run and "explore".)
