What I'm Reading

It's been kicking around my house for MONTHS. I must have just been "ready" for it..
excerpts:
psych / recovery book

Says that..like as kids...when they are abused/neglected...it can "recur" in their minds "enforcing the event to happen again and again" into adulthood, and it takes a CONSCIOUS choice of will to stop the cycle

"the damage to the survivor's faith and sense of community is particularly severe when the traumatic events themselves involve the betrayal of important relationships. The imagery of these events often crystallizes around a moment of betrayal, and its this breach of trust which gives the intrusive images their intense emotional power.

Like...how some Vietnam vets Prefer to work the midnight shift because the night was the scariest...although CONSCIOUSLY they didn't realize it.

.. traumatized people suffer damage to the basic structures of the self. They lose their trust in themselves, in other people and in God
... with severe enough traumatic exposure, no person is immune
.... like kids who have been Kidnapped, or schoolchildren
Sometimes (and adults) feel they need a "lucky charm" to protect them through life.
the lucky charm takes various forms.

the ways that the BEST people cope:
active, task-oriented coping strategies, strong sociability's
not loners

STRONG perception of their ability to control their destiny.

child hood abuse resist the belief that it was NOT their fault
persistent attempts to "be good" through out life

perfectionist zeal, desperate need to find favor
inner sense of badness
elaborate bargaining

"unable to form a safe consistent caretaker picture in their minds"

puts the people on "hyper arousal"...or state of confusion, agitation, emptiness, and utter aloneness..."a dark bundle is a step forward, and sometimes I don't' even feel THAT good".

the victims' intimate relationships, are driven by the hunger for protection and care and are haunted by the fear of abandonment or exploitation.
Ordinary interpersonal conflicts provoke intense anxiety, depression or rage.

I can only read a little at a time.

The Secret...book What I'm reading

Get it...read it.
Let me know what you are thinking. Great websites on it...Wondering.

I think "the Secret" works,,,because it is based on Biblical example.

"As a man thinks, so is he"
"I have come that they might have life, and have it MORE Abundantly"
"if you say to that mountain MOVE...it shall be done"
"every good gift, and every perfect gift, comes from the Father above in whom no changing occurs"
The parable of the dad...giving a stone to his child when they requested bread.

Old Friends

While in Bible College, one of the Associate Pastors stated over and over again, 'don't ever give away a book or a gun'. OR loan them. well I've broken both rules, except for the guns. I've loaned and lost MANY books, but I see it as a part of my mission. If I buy "Co-dependent no more" one more time......!!!!
I was inspired by my blogger friend who has ALL the Perry Mason books except one. Should she search for and buy the LAST one?
For me, I was able to keep my sanity much longer than I should have (HA) by reading Westerns in Oklahoma City. Somehow, Zane Grey, and Louis L'Amour. Louis taught me that if you are entering a dark area, from the light, (in his books it was walking away from the campfire into the woods),,,, to close your eyes, and and wait a second or two. Then When you open your eyes, they will be adjusted to the darkness and you can see immediately. There was Max Brand too, but I only read him in a pinch.
I also learned that the Hero's in L'Amour's books know how to treat "their women". Except it is singular. Woman. One. One that has their heart, One that they seek. One. It helped me realize that the preacher boy I was married to was snarky, slimy and a cheater.
It helped give me strength to realize God doesn't require me to stay married to someone who does not have my heart. When Someone "counsels" many other women, it is NOT an act of love toward their wife.
Louis L'Amour called him all kinds of names, Snakes, Grass Eaters, Poisonous Side winder,
Villian, False friend or Pebble eater.
Yep. I like that. And so thankful that God saw through my wilderness, and brought me through to a "lively" western town, where "people are good, and share meals with strangers."
